Analysis of "CORONACION"

"... anyone who realizes that what he's seeing is intimately linked to Donoso's written world is right. This is fundamentally bacause Donoso's settings are idel for transforming into images, especially with Caiozzi at the helm. Caiozzi has remained faithful to the writer's pen, but has brought it to life with the mastery and lucidity of a filmmaker.

..."Coronación" is essentially a work of atmosphere. This is as true for the setting as it is for what happens in the intimacy of each character. This is why Caiozzi's interpretation exemplifies the enigmatic elements of a once glorious past, assembled using the memories and fragments that remain, and the souls of the beings who mvoe in those closed spaces. The main symbols of these enclosures extend into another secret setting and comment on a life driven forward with so much force that it cannot be stopped. It is like the mansion's grounds, a faded labyrinth, with flowers that were once fragant and colorful, and trees and bushed that now serve only to hide those who spy out of jealousy and resentment form the agony, and the manifestation of a life in wich solitude and abandonment have the right to make themselves felt in a thousand ways. This is evident when the furtive Andrés tortures himself in the shadows while watching Estela pant from the caresses and kisses of her young suitor.

...Much more could be said about it notable film. We cannot forget that all movies are the end result of an organized team, guided with talent by the director (who also wrote the screenplay). In this team, the actors are a major contribution, especially Julio Jung, María Cánepa (National Art Prize winner) and the young Adela Secall. The music, composed by Luis Advis, perfectly characterizes the settings, and David Bravo's cinematography evokes painful and nostalgic sentiments. Also noteworthy is the art director of Guadalupe Bornand. With all these creative minds, Caiozzi has achieved a film thart deserves an honorable rank among Chilean cinema's finest works.
